Allow several hours to take a historical and cultural tour which encompasses the Araluen Cultural Centre - Alice's Art Centre where the permanent and rotating exhibitions of the works of local traditional and contemporary artists and crafts people. An excellent Namatjira exhibition is on permanent exhibition. The theatre offers excellent performances by local and interstate companies.
The Strehlow Research Centre: This is both a research facility and an exhibit of the work done by anthropologist Ted Strehlow in the early part of the twentieth century in documenting the lives of Aboriginal people in the Hermannsberg area, west of Alice Springs.
The Central Australian Museum featuring the natural history
of Central Australia in fossils, reconstruction's of ancient animals and the
effects of meteors on the region then the Aviation Museum and the Memorial
Cemetery, where you can visit the graves of Lasseter, the painter Albert
Namatjira and explore the history of Alice Springs through the people who made
it. Paths are unsealed but well formed, parking is good and the cemetery
is connected to the Aviation Museum by an access ramp.
A 5min drive to the world famous Alice Springs Desert Park, which offers a unique experience where you can witness free-flying birds of prey, explore desert habitats, or view Australian animals in the award-winning nocturnal house.
Alice Springs itself, is a modern town with a range of services and facilities which will make your stay a comfortable one.
There is plenty of history. You can visit the Overland Telegraph Station, and take a self-guided heritage walk and discover the past of Alice Springs.
